The Center for Mathematical Modeling of Knee Osteoarthritis

The forefront of degenerative joint disease research of osteoarthritis, leveraging specialist expertise from renowned academics to develop the first-ever multi-scale mathematical model of knee osteoarthritis.

We are a multi-national centre comprising several globally-renowned mathematical and scientific researchers from Aalborg University (AAU), Lund University (LU) and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF), alongside collaborators from Aalborg University Hospital and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Recent DKK 50 million funding from Novo Nordisk Foundation’s Challenge Program on Mathematical Modeling of Health and Disease enables us to develop the world’s first predictive, multi-scale, and multifactorial Mathematical Modeling of Knee OsteoArthritis (MathKOA).

This comprehensive model facilitates computer-driven investigations into various patient-specific KOA treatment options and their predicted outcomes from the body to the cellular levels.

Participants Needed for Research on ACL Injuries and Osteoarthritis

In the Center for Mathematical Modeling of Knee Osteoarthritis (MathKOA), Aalborg University and Aalborg University Hospital are studying cartilage degradation in the knee due to ACL injuries or osteoarthritis. We need participants for this research.
