A new multiaxial dynamic testing machine from MTS is currently being installed in the mechanical testing lab at the Department of Materials and Production.
The testing machine has a fatigue loading capacity, which amounts to the weight of 8 elephants in tension/compression and 22 VW Polo cars in torsion.
The multiaxial testing machine will be used to investigate mixed-mode fracture processes, including mode III fracture, in wind turbine blade related design details.
The CraCS research group at Materials and Production will be using the new testing machine in relation to the AIOLOS research project together with Siemens Gamesa, FORCE Technology, Pontis Engineering and DTU Wind Energy.
